Public Garden Portal August, 1895

WardMaps Collection

Regular price $14.95

1895 is displayed above the western portal of the Tremont Street Subway. Outside of the tunnel, granite walls form the sides of the Public Garden Incline. After tracks were laid within the tunnel and along the incline, streetcars moved through the portal, on their way between Boylston Street Station and the surface at Boylston Street. Photograph is from the Boston Transit Commission's first annual report, for the year 1895.

Paper and Inks
We utilize Epson fine art paper and Epson Ultrachrome inks. Using this highly engineered combination of archival inks and acid-free paper, we create museum-quality, no-fade reproductions of the images from our collections. Fine art papers are heavy-weight, matte finish.

Layout of the Image
While we print reproductions onto paper of pre-determined sizes, the proportions of our photographs and other images vary. We reconcile this discrepancy by printing each image as large as possible onto the given piece of paper, while maintaining the original proportions of the source image. Given that the proportions of the image rarely match the proportions of the paper, there is always white space (the color of the white paper before printing) around each reproduction. This is to say: there is a portion of the paper or canvas with no printing on it, usually no more than an inch or two around all sides of each reproduction.

Packaging of Fine Art Prints
Prints sized at 13" x 19" or smaller are packaged in clear, plastic sleeves with rigid backer-boards, and ship flat. Prints over 13" x 19" are shipped rolled, in tubes.
